Criminal Law Private Fees

1. Office appointments £190 plus VAT £38 – total £228, payable in advance or on the day
2. 1st hearing in the Magistrates’ Court £550 plus VAT £110 – total £660, payable in advance
3. Combination fee of appointment and 1st appearance £600 plus VAT £120 – total £720 (saving between 1 and 2: £58)
4. If case is adjourned to a sentence hearing: additional £350 plus VAT £70 – total £420
5. If instructed for sentence hearing only £475 plus VAT £95 – total £570, with office appointment as per item 3 above
6. To represent a client for totting up, to include one office appointment and one hearing: £1,000 plus VAT £200 – total £1,200. Additional appointments as per item 1 above. Additional hearings other than the main hearing £350 plus VAT £70 – total £420
7. Interlocutory hearings (bad character, special measures etc.) £300 plus VAT £60 – total £360
8. Trials
   8a. Half days £850 plus vat of £170 making total of £1,020
   8b. Full day £1,500 plus vat of £300 making total of £1,800
   8c. Fees to include 1 office appointment and preparation and advice on appeal on conviction. Additional appointments as per 1 above.
   8d. On convictions adjourned for sentence as 4 above.
9. Other work requested to do as per the appointment hourly rate.
10. Crown Court work
    10a. Ptph to consider evidence and 1 office appointment £1,000 plus Vat £200 totals £1,200
    10b. Subsequent hearings and trials can’t be listed in my view and will need 2 fee earners to discuss and agree.
11. Correspondence to be by e mail if possible.
12. Clients in custody or hearings at locations in excess of 10 miles from Birkenhead will be charged at a mileage rate of 45 p per mile and any parking or Tunell fees
13. Private payers for police station work ie where specific fee earner requested £450 minimum plus vat £90 totalling £540.  Lengthy all-day interviews to be considered further as 2nd interviews.
